Wanfa Liu, program workgroup leader of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, obtained M.S. of Optics in the Department of Physics, Jilin University. From 1992 to now, he has engaged in the research of intense chemical lasers, including the theoretical and experimental investigation of the Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser (COIL) device configurations, a theoretical modeling of the jet singlet oxygen generator, a novel theoretical modeling of the energy-transfer kinetics of COIL, and a profound theoretical investigation on wave theory of lasers. He created a set of online measurement system for the utilization of chlorine, the yield of singlet oxygen, the flow-rate of iodine and water vapor, etc., and invented a jet singlet oxygen generator with square-pipe-array, which contributed significantly to improve the chemical efficiency of COIL to the international advanced level. Currently he is working on a program of a novel unstable resonator sponsored by the national 863 high-tech R&D project. The workgroup owns some advanced devices and instruments, such as Fezeu interferometer, visible and IR Shack-Hartmann sensors, and the instruments for beam quality and polarization measurements.
Research Directions:
1. Theory of quantum laser resonators.
2. Chemical lasers
3. Novel unstable resonators
