Research Interests

The scientific interests of Prof. Wang cover the fields of heterogeneous catalysis and material chemistry, with special attention to design and development of metal-oxide nano-catalysts for their advanced applications in energy related material science and environmentally benign processes of biomass transformation. He has published more than 110 journal papers and more than 100 Chinese patents have been authorized.

Ongoing projects include:

1.Synthesis and characterization of structurally well-defined nanomaterials, such as oxides, zeolites, and metal nanoparticles

2.Development of green and environmentally benign processes

3.Transformation of biomass (such as lignin, cellulose, glycerol and other molecules) into BTX, phenolic compounds, and polymer building blocks

4.Photo-catalysts for solar fuel production, CO2 valorization and biomass conversion

5.Theoretical calculations and life cycle assessment

Biography

Professor Feng Wang received his BS degree at Zhengzhou University in 1999 and his PhD at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2005. He joined the Organic Catalysis Group as an assistant professor in the same year. He later did postdoctoral research at the University of California-Berkeley and Hokkaido University-Catalysis Research Center. In 2009, he was promoted as a member of Hundred Talents program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and began his independent research as the leader of the Bioenergy Chemical Group. He now serves as the vice director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS and the director of the Biomass-Conversion and Bio-Energy division.

He serves as the Associate Editor of ACS Catalysis, also works in the editorial board or advisory board of several international scientific journals, including ChemSusChem, Chinese Journal of Catalysis, Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy, Chinese Journal of Chemistry, etc.
