November 26th, 2016, the kick-off meeting for National Program on Key Research and Development Project “Control over the Surface & Interface of 2D Materials for C1 Conversion”, has been held successfully in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This project is presided by Associate Prof. DENG Dehui from DICP. Prof. BAO Xinhe (Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Prof. CHEN Ping from DICP, Prof. WANG Ye from XMU, Prof. HU Zheng from Nanjing University, and Prof. LU Anhui from Dalian University of Technology have been invited and attended this kick-off meeting as advisory experts of this project.

The chief scientist, Associate Prof. DENG Dehui, firstly introduced the basis of this project and related key scientific issues, research goal, research team, previous research foundation and the latest progress, and the project management. He introduced that this project team is organized by very young researchers from the four member institutions DICP, XMU, IMR and Soochow University and collaborated by taking advantages in energy, catalysis, materials of the member institutions respectively. This project focuses on new 2D catalytic materials and precise control of the surface and interface of 2D heterostructures and its electron properties. With the goal of efficiently catalytic conversion of C1, the team will focus on the activation process and reaction mechanism of CH4 and CO under the moderate reaction conditions, trying to make breakthroughs in controllable synthesis, in situ dynamic characterization, catalysis theory of new 2D catalytic materials, to lie a foundation for the application of 2D materials and heterostructures in catalytic conversion of C1 molecules. After that, other members of this team have introduced their tasks respectively.

The experts have affirmed the importance and significance of this project, and thought this project aims to national strategic needs in coal and natural gas conversion, and appraised the team to challenge global scientific concerns C1 conversion. They suggested the team to strengthen collaborations and cooperation, to further ensure the key research points and characteristics, to concentrate forces on solving the key scientific and technological issues of this project. Besides, the experts have given some detailed and specific instructive advices and suggestions for the organization and implementation of this project. (Text and Imaged by JIANG Xiumei and CUI Xiaoju)
