Lecturer:ZHONG Jianjiang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Abstract:

Natural products produced by higher organisms are of great significance to human social life. Traditionally, these natural products have been obtained through field collection or artificial cultivation and re-extraction. However, there are many defects.Advanced cell culture is an eco-friendly, green, advanced bioengineering technology for the production of natural products. The research value is huge and meets the country's major strategic needs, however, its development and application are limited by the slow growth of cells, low levels of secondary metabolites, and no tolerance of shear forces. In the past 20 years, we have focused on the production of natural products from higher organisms such as Ganoderma lucidum, and conducted systematic and in-depth studies with biological and chemical engineering theories and methods. We created a static and dynamic coupling culture mode, established a rational culture method for the dual enhancement of cell growth and secondary metabolite synthesis, and constructed a set theory and method for high cell culture reactor creation and process amplification.

Introduction:

ZHONG Jianjiang obtained his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science & Technology, in July 1986, and Master and Ph.D. degrees in Fermentation Technology/Biotechnology from Osaka University (Osaka, Japan) in March 1990 and March 1993, respectively.

Professor ZHONG's major research interest is applied biotechnology and biochemical engineering science, especially molecular biochemical engineering, advanced fermentation technology, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology. He has published 7 books by Springer and 240 articles in peer-reviewed international journals (cited by Science Citation Index), and his published papers have been cited in SCIE for over 5800 times with an H-Index of 42 (web of science), and cited for>10,000 times with an H-Index of 54 (google scholar). Due to his outstanding research achievements, Dr. ZHONG was awarded the Cheung Kong Scholar Professorship, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2002, the inaugural award of "Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize" by the Society for Biotechnology (Japan) in 2002. Professor Zhong was an invited and plenary/keynote lecturer in 70 international conferences.
