Location: Conference Hall of Basic Energy Building

Dr. Nicky Dean

Chief Editor of Nature Energy

Nature Energy is a new monthly journal from Nature Research Group. We are dedicated to exploring all aspects of energy: from its generation and storage, to its management and distribution, the needs and demands of the different actors, and the impacts that energy technologies and policies have on societies. As such, Nature Energy will cover the scientific and technological advances in the field, the economic and political developments that both help and hinder them, and the different possible paths towards our energy futures. We want to create a venue that presents the very best of this research to all parties interested in tackling energy concerns. There will be a particular interest in studies that advance our knowledge and inform the development of next-generation technologies and solutions. In this talk, I will give an introduction to the journal, as well as an overview of how we relate to the other Nature journals and how our processes work.

Short Biography:

Chief Editor: Nicky Dean

Nicky joined Nature Publishing Group in July 2011 as an editor for Nature Communications, where he handled a broad range of manuscripts across applied and fundamental physics and photonics, including solar cells and light-trapping structures for energy harvesting. He also managed a team of physics and earth sciences editors, before leaving to launch Nature Energy in April 2015. Nicky gained his DPhil from the University of Oxford, where he employed a range of time-resolved techniques, from X-rays down to the terahertz regime, to study ultrafast dynamics in correlated electron materials. His subsequent postdoctoral studies for the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter involved characterizing and controlling the magnetic behaviour of multiferroics using nonlinear optical techniques. Nicky is based in the London office.

Senior Editor: Changjun (Alex) Zhang

Changjun, also known as Alex, joined Nature Publishing Group in March 2013 as an editor for Nature Communications. He handled manuscripts across a range of subjects, focusing on batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, fundamental electrochemistry, surface science and heterogeneous catalysis, before moving to Nature Energy in August 2015. Alex received his PhD in surface catalysis from Queen’s University Belfast. He later worked in postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge and University College London, where his research expertise expanded to the fields of energy production and storage. Alex is based in the Shanghai office.
