Liang Li, PhD
Professor of Chemistry, Adjunct Professor of Biochemistry &
Canada Research Chair in Analytical Chemistry
Department of Chemistry, University of Alberta
Short Bio-sketch:
Dr. Li obtained his BSc in Chemistry from Zhejiang (Hangzhou) University in 1983 and his PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan and joined the University of Alberta in July 1989, where he is Professor of Chemistry, Adjunct professor of Biochemistry and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Analytical Chemistry. Dr. Li served as Director, Alberta Cancer Board Proteomics Resource Laboratory, from 2000 to 2005 and has been Chair of Analytical Chemistry Division at the U of Alberta since 2007.
Dr. Li’s research interest is in the area of developing analytical mass spectrometry for proteomics and metabolomics applications. He is currently active in developing new methods for quantitative and comprehensive metabolome profiling of bio-systems for biological studies and discovery of disease biomarkers.
Dr. Li has received several awards, including the Rutherford Memorial Medal in Chemistry from the Royal Society of Canada (2003), the F.P. Lossing Award from the Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry (2006), the Maxxam Award from the Canadian Society of Chemistry (2009) and the Gerhard Herzberg Award from the Canadian Society for Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy (2010).
