Abstract:

Roll-to-roll printable polymer solar cell has attracted intensive attention over the past decades due to its low manufacturer cost and many advantages. The product is light in weight, thin film, flexible and can be made transparent, easy to be integrated into building materials. The major roadblock is relatively lower power conversion efficiency and shorter device lifetime compared to other counterparts. This talk will cover a series of topics including material development, device engineering and R2R manufacturing. Speaker will share with you the status of the printable OPV industry, elaborate future opportunities and challenges in OPV commercialization.

Introduction:

In the year of 1998, Dr. Wei Wang graduated as a B.S. from Dalian University of Technology. He earned a M.S. in Organic Chemistry in 2004 from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 2008 from University of Miami. Dr. Wei Wang worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago from 2009 to 2011. He devoted in printable organic solar cell commercialization since Feb 2011 at Solarmer Energy Inc. where he worked as a senior chemist and was promoted as the head of materials development team three months later. At Aug 2012, Dr. Wei Wang and his team refreshed “world record” power conversion efficiency in polymer based solar cells. This achievement has been widely reported by Yahoo Finance, Houston Chronicle, Business Wire and CNBC, etc. Dr. Wei Wang is the co-founder of California Organic Semiconductors Inc. He has published 14 peer reviewed journal articles and 1 book chapter, cited over 1000 times.
