Abstract

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have been developed as clean and efficient power source for generating electricity using fuel and oxygen or air. In South Korea, the developments of SOFCs are very active because of big support from the government. Recently, the main research of SOFCs at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) has been focused on preparing and evaluating new cathode materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells, developing unique monolithic flat tube type of SOFC stacks (MEGA, SEGA cells), and fuel processors and anti-coking catalysts for various fuels. In this presentation, the speaker will introduce some results about SOFCs from his group.

Introduction:

Dr. Jong Shik Chung has been professor for 26 years in the department of chemical engineering of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea. He currently serves as director of POSTECH institute of new and renewable energy (INRE) and also director of national hydrogen fuel cell test-bed center (HFCTB) with 108 members from companies and institutes. He is member of national academy of engineering of Korea. He holds over 200 papers and 80 patents in the area of catalysis and fuel cells. He currently focuses his research on developing unique monolithic flat tube type of SOFC stacks (MEGA, SEGA cells), and fuel processors and anti-coking catalysts for various fuels.
