Sino-German Workshop on “Catalyst and Membrane Research for Energy-Related Applications”

The Helmholtz-CAS Joint Research Group “Integrated Catalytic Technologies for Efficient Hydrogen Production” (HCJRG) successfully held a Sino-German workshop on “Catalyst and Membrane Research for Energy-Related Applications” on September 23th and 24th at the Dalian National Laboratory for Clean Energy. The workshop was hosted by Professor Andreas Goldbach from DICP as an activity of the HCJRG. It brought together around 30 scholars from China, Germany, Korea and Italy to discuss recent advances in catalysis for hydrogen production and storage as well as for carbon dioxide, syngas and biomass conversion, novel processes in membrane and microreactors, and recent progress in operando reactor characterization and electron microscopy (http://www.dicp.ac.cn/xwzx/xstz/xsbg/201509/t20150922_4428833.html).

The HCJRG (http://www.imvt.kit.edu/434.php) is a collaborative research endeavor between Prof. Goldbach and Prof. Xiulian Pan of DICP and Prof. Roland Dittmeyer and Prof. Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) which is sponsored by CAS and the German Helmholtz Association. It aims at the development of highly efficient and compact systems for hydrogen production from renewable sources through integration of highly active catalysts and ultrathin, hydrogen-selective membranes into microreactors, making use of synchroton X-ray techniques for in situ and in operando characterization of the fully integrated systems.

The goal of this workshop was to strengthen the relationship between KIT and DICP and reach out to a wider range of experts from different scientific areas. We envision new international scientific partnerships on the investigation and development of materials and processes for energy-related applications arising from this workshop.
