Symposium on clinical and translational medicine was held on August 21 at biotechnology building in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Shengli Yang (member of Chinese academy of engineering), director of translational medical science research center of DICP, invited famous medical school and hospitals to participate, including Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, School of medicine Tsinghua university, Beijing Fuwai hospital and Ministry of health Beijing hospital. More than 20 famous translational medical researchers and related biotechnologists attended this meeting.
The meeting was presided by Dr. Guowang Xu who is deputy director of translational medicine science research center of DICP. Deputy Director of DICP, Dr. Zhongmin Liu, gave the opening speech for the symposium. He introduced Dalian institute of Chemical physics for the audience and then evaluated how translational medical research important to our institution. Subsequently, Shengli Yang reviewed the current status of translational medicine research in China and World and gave the suggestion on future work. Professor Wanli Xing (School of medicine Tsinghua University) presented how to promote the development of translational medicine research at technology level and policy. Professor Chen Wang, member of Chinese academy of engineering (Ministry of health Beijing hospital), mainly discussed clinical research system and ability problems. Prof. Weiping Jia (Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital) and Prof. Lixin Jiang (Beijing Fuwai hospital) presented how to solve problems between clinical and translational medicine, and discussed how to manage translational medicine resources and establish information platforms, respectively. The goal of this meeting is to cover important clinical requirements by combining DICP’s technique platform and clinical resources of hospitals. Attendees achieved preliminary cooperation intents on drug safety evaluation, biomarker screening for anticoagulation treatment thrombolysis, pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and microfluidic chip as well as ARDS and immune adsorption study.
Currently, the translational medicine research is being the global issues. Division of biotechnology in DICP has been involved in this field for several years. On the basis of this division a translational research science center has been established recently. The center has attracted and is attracting returned junior PIs from abroad to join.
As one part of this meeting, Prof. Hong Sang (deputy-president of China medical university) was invited on Aug. 20 to present a lecture on applications of molecular diagnostic techniques in AIDS prevention under the chair of Deputy Director of DICP, Prof. Xueming Yang.
