With the invitation of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Harry and Catherine Jaynne Boand Endowed Professor of Chemistry in the department of Chemistry at the University of Washington Prof. LI Xiaosong, visited DICP during March 29th to 31th.

On March 30th, he presented the first DICP Zhang Dayu Young Investigator Lecture & DICP 70th Anniversary Lecture (Ⅳ) with the title of “watch the Dance of Electrons in Molecules”. Prof. CAI Rui, the deputy director of DICP, hosted the lecture and awarded Prof. LI the DICP Zhang Dayu Young Investigator Lectureship.

Ultrafast electronic dynamics are foundational to a wide range of chemical processes. Prof. LI’s group focus on the development of time-dependent many-electron theories and computational methods to investigate these ultrafast non-equilibrium dynamical processes.

In this lecture, he illustrated the power of quantum electron dynamics by presenting several important applications in molecular and materials sciences, including the formation and decay of molecular plasmons, and the coherence of electron waves and spins.

During his visiting, Prof. LI also visited State Key Laboratory for Molecular Reaction Dynamics, Aerospace Catalysts and New Materials Division, and Molecular Modeling and Design Group, and discussed with some related scientists. (Text by LI Wanjun)
