Professor Zhongmin Liu received his BS degree in Physical Chemistry from Zhengzhou University in 1983 and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics in 1990. He has been the Director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS since 2017.
In 2006, as a leading scientist, Prof. Liu, together with partners and his colleagues, has successfully accomplished the industrial demonstration test of DMTO technology. Based on DMTO technology, the world’s first commercial MTO unit has been built by Shenhua group, which was a milestone in the fields of coal to chemicals. Besides DMTO, Prof. Liu has also developed many other new catalysts and catalytic processes, such as methanol to ethanol, propylene to isopropanol and methanol to dimethyl ether. Recently, the world’s first Coal-to-Ethanol (methanol to ethanol) demonstration plant (100 KTA ethanol) has been commissioned.
By the end of October 2018, Zhongmin Liu has cultivated more than 40 graduate students with Ph.D degree and M.S degree, has published more than 300 papers and 1 academic monograph, holds 351 authorized effective patents, including 198 China patents and 153 foreign patents. Prof. Liu is the editorial board of “Journal of Chinese Catalysis”, ”Journal of Energy Chemistry”, “Progress in Chemical Industry”, and the dean of College of Energy Chinese Academy of Sciences, the vice chairman of the Chinese Petroleum Society, the standing member of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China. He was the member of International Academic Committee of 13th, 14th and 17th International Zeolite Conference. He has also given many invited presentations on international conferences.
