Review Article on Pd-based Composite Membranes by DICP Scientists

A review article with the title of “Recent progress in Pd-based composite membranes”, written by Prof. LI Hui and Prof. XU Hengyong of Dalian National Laboratory for Clean Energy (DNL), DICP, was published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A (http://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2016/ta/c6ta05380g). This article reviewed the latest progress about the preparation and performance of Pd-based composite membranes, covering both experimental and modeling studies.

Pd-based composite membranes exhibit great potential in several important fields, such as ultra-purification of hydrogen, small-scale hydrogen generation and CO2 capture. This has become a research of focus in recent years due to growing interest in several strategic industries, e.g., semiconductor, LED, photovoltaic power generation, fuel cells and rocket fuels. The group of DNL1902 (led by Prof. XU Hengyong) has long been dedicated to the application research on Pd-based composite membranes. Lately, this group has successfully demonstrated an industrial-scale ultra-pure hydrogen purification plant at a capacity above 800 Nm3/h and hydrogen purity above 99.9999% with proprietary high performance multi-channel Pd composite membranes, which marks an important milestone in the development of this technology.(Text and Image by LI Hui)
