On May 27, the project of “High Accuracy and High Resolution Time-of-Flight Mass Analyzer” undertaken by group 102 has successfully pass spot-test by project expert, consist of Professor YU Keqi, LIU Xuebo, ZHAO Motian, LI Huakun and LI Zhanping. The mass resolution arrive 270,000 beyond the aim of project 20,000. The results are in the international advanced level.
Multi-reflection time-of-flight technique was adopted to realize high-resolution. Ion beam extraction from surface is introduced into reflection region, then repeatedly reflected between two sets of planar gridless mirrors arranged symmetrically. Both flight path and time-of-flight were greatly extended. As flight laps N grows, the mass resolution increase according. In experiment the optimum resolution is ~270,000 at laps N=174 and flight path over 700 m. The total ion transmission efficiency appears to decline with the laps increase until N>20, then remains stable at 25%. The spectrum acquisition speed is 50 spe/s.
Compare to similar types mass spectrometer, the instrument of Multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer not only has qualitative ability, but also the high mass resolution covers a broad mass rang.
