Dr. Fangjun Wang’s Ph.D thesis “Applications of Monolithic Column and Isotope Dimethylation Labeling in Shotgun Proteome Analysis” has been published in the series of Springer Theseshttp://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-642-42008-5#page-1. Prof. Dr. Hanfa Zou is the supervisor of this Ph.D thesis. Dr. Fangjun Wang is awarded UCAS-Springer Excellent Doctoral Theses Award. 8 Ph.D theses in University of Chinese Academy of Science have selected for Springer Theses in 2013.

Protein science is the core of modern biological research as all of the biological functions are specifically performed by proteins. This Ph.D thesis applied new technologies of monolithic columns and dimethyl isotope labeling in both qualitative and quantitative proteome analysis to feasibly improve the analysis throughput, accuracy, reliability and proteome coverage. This Ph.D thesis has been also selected as Excellent Doctoral Theses of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012.

Internationally top-ranked research institutes select their best thesis annually for publication in the series of Springer Theses. Nominated and endorsed by two recognized specialists, each thesis is chosen for its scientific excellence and impact on research. For greater accessibility to non-specialists, the published versions include an extended introduction, as well as a foreword by the student’s supervisor explaining the special relevance of the work for the field. As a whole, the series provides a valuable resource both for newcomers to the relevant field, and for other scientists seeking detailed background information on special questions. Finally, it provides an accredited documentation of the valuable contributions made by today’s younger generation of scientists. (By Fangjun Wang)
