On August 13, Prof. Xiaosong Gu from Nantong University was invited to visit DICP and give a lecture entitled “Tissue engineered nerve grafts and their applications for peripheral nerve repair”. The lecture session was presided over by Prof. Xinmiao Liang, DICP. Prof. Ling Yang and graduates in DICP attended to listen to Gu’s lecture, which summarized recent advancements in the field of neural tissue engineering and delineated a series of works by his research group about the construction of tissue engineered nerve grafts and their clinical applications. After lecture, Prof. Gu and his colleagues looked around the laboratories in DICP, and discussed with Profs. Liang and Yang, DICP, on future collaboration between both sides.
Prof Gu is the director of Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Neuroregeneration, Nantong University. He obtained the first National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and currently serves as the vice president of Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences (CSAS). He was the winner of 2012 National Award for Technological Invention, 2nd prize, due to his outstanding contributions to tissue engineered nerve grafts used for peripheral nerve regeneration. The achievements of his group have been reported by Journal “Science” (2012, 338: 900-2). (Text/Photo by Yan Dong of 1803)
