Ultrafast Vibrational Dynamics of DNA Systems Studied By Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract: 
To study nucleobase pairing in DNA, hydrogen bond formation of the nucleobases themselves are often analyzed. We investigate the N-H stretching vibrations of both hydrogen-bonded Adenine-Thymine(A-T) oligomer film and Guanosine-Cytidine (G-C) base pairs in chloroform solution with linear and ultrafast nonlinear infrared (IR) spectroscopy. By employing Two-Dimensional IR spectroscopy ,we discern the overlapping broad peaks and map the energy transfer between two vibration oscillators in A-T oligomer. In G-C solution the life time of the vibrations are measured and the energy transfer is also mapped.
