2013 China Sample Preparation Symposium was held in the Lecture Hall of Biology Building of DICP, August 3-5. This symposium was sponsored by Sample Preparation Professional Committee, Analytical Instrument Branch of China Instrument and Control Society, and hosted by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS. Analytical instrument is one key development area of China’s 12th Five-Year Plan, and sample preparation is one of most important factors for the full realization of the potential of analytical instruments. In food safety, environmental protection, life sciences, clinical diagnosis, medicine and pharmacy, etc., sample preparation largely determines the level of the accuracy and repeatability of analytical results. Opening ceremony was presided by Professor Yafeng Guan. Academician Lupei Zhang and Academician Xueming Yang, deputy director of DICP, delivered their welcoming speeches, respectively.
The symposium had 24 keynote speeches. Academician Yukui Zhang from DICP, Academician Shouzhuo Yao from Hunan Normal University, Academician Guibin Jiang from Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, CAS, and professors from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Jilin University, and other well-known universities, as well as experts from Key Laboratory of agricultural product quality and safety of Ministry of Agriculture, Research Institute of Health and Environmental Medicine, Military Medical Sciences, National Institute of Metrology, National Technical Committee on Reference Materials, COFCO Institute of Nutrition and Health, Liaoning Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau were included. Their reports mainly focused on the tend of national regulation rules and standards, new principles and methods for sample preparation. 15 corporate special reports and 19 corporate booths were also included. These top international firms also fully demonstrated their recent developments in novel materials, new products, and full strategies for sample preparation.
In the closing remarks, Symposium Chairman, Professor Yafeng Guan expressed his sincere gratitude to all professors, analysts, and companies for their great support and help. This symposium had extensively revealed the forefronts of scientific developments, the latest products, and application progress in sample preparation; pave a new path for the collaboration between basic research institutes, universities and instrument manufacturers; and created comfortable communication atmosphere for all analysts and cooperations. This symposium would greatly promote the development of sample preparation techniques and further applications in various fields in China. (By Dapeng Wu, photos from Liang Feng and Wansheng Liu)
