Dear members of the DICP community,
On behalf of the DICP Leadership Team, I am very delighted to extend our warmest greetings and New Year wishes to you and your family.
2021 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, also the first year for the country to implement the 14th Five-Year Plan and practice the "Carbon Peak and Neutrality" strategy. Taking advantage of the momentum, we exerted ourselves to contrive discipline layout in clean energy research, formulate the Institute’s 14th Five-Year Plan and construct the blueprint for future development. More than 580 researchers and 11 research teams settled in the new modern science and education integration base--the Energy College of UCAS at Yinggeshi, which opened a new chapter in our institute's high-quality development. A variety of original scientific and technological achievements with important international influence emerged, among which the achievement of "Nano-restricted catalysis" won the first prize of the 2020 National Natural Science Award.
Regarding directional and systematic basic research facing national strategic needs and major scientific frontier issues as the main task, a series of basic research breakthroughs have been achieved in the past year. Just a few examples: The cross-molecular beam ion imaging device revealed the influence of the electron angular momentum of the F atom on the F+HD reaction process (published in Science); "Experimental observation of quantum interference in chemical reactions" was selected as one of the top ten scientifical progress in China in 2020. Significant progress has been made in the research on the mechanism of dynamic confinement catalysis, the original concept of solar photocatalysis "hydrogen farm", and the new method of direct methanation of biomass etc. We have published 1465 research papers indexed in SCI this year.
Furthermore, many great achievements have been made in applied researches. The application of new generation of methanol-to-olefin catalyst and technology leads to a "2.8 Era” of the unit consumption. The total contract capacity of coal-based ethanol technology reaches 2.85 million tons/a. The preparation of the 300 KTA direct synthesis gas to olefins process package is completed. The catalytic purification technology of volatile organic gases (VOCs) has been put into operation in a total of 14 industrial installations, which won the first prize of Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. The world’s first 1,000 tons/a biomass ethylene glycol pilot plant was completed. The construction of the world's largest 100MW all-vanadium flow battery energy storage power station is mainly completed. The world's first "liquid solar fuel synthesis demonstration project" passed the China Petrochemical Federation's achievement appraisal. The pre-research device of the herbal material scientific research facility was established as an industrial application demonstration platform. The broad-spectrum prototype fuel cell was honored in National "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition. Green Propulsion Power System completed on-orbit application on the Qilu-1 satellite for the first time. The dual-channel gas chromatograph developed by DICP was used in the Tianhe core cabin. In this year, DICP has filed 1404 patents, and 1264 patents have been granted.
Thanks to our partners and colleagues from industry, CAS institutes, local government and overseas institutes, the great progress has been made such as the application of our new technologies, the construction of clean energy innovation institutes, talent team construction, and international cooperation. Aiming for the “Carbon Peak and Neutrality” target, DICP undertook global climate change related projects such as Sino-French hydrogen energy strategy research.
2022 is the year of the party's 20th National Congress, also the year of deepening the national 14th Five-Year Plan. Combining with the Institute's 14th Five-Year Plan, DICP will formulate the strategic transfer of the main park and the strategic adjustment of the technological layout in the next 10-20 years to fulfill the requirement of the country and create a new development dynamic.
As the New Year approaches, I thank you all for your exceptional contributions in fruitful 2021. I believe the coming 2022 will provide us with further opportunities to build on our distinguished records. DICP also has an open mind to welcome talents from home and abroad to study and work in our institute. To all DICP members and families, and all our friends around the globe celebrating the year 2022, we wish you a vigorous, harmonious, and prosperous New Year.
