Sino-German Workshop on “Nanostructured Materials for Hydrogen Production”

The Helmholtz-CAS Joint Research Group “Integrated Catalytic Technologies for Efficient Hydrogen Production” (HCJRG) successfully held a Sino-German workshop on “Nanostructured Materials for Hydrogen Production” on December 9th and 10th at the Dalian National Laboratory for Clean Energy (DNL). The workshop was hosted by Professor Andreas Goldbach from DICP as an activity of the HCJRG. It brought together more than 30 scholars from China, Germany, Korea and Japan to discuss recent advances in nanostructured catalysts for syngas and biomass conversion, advanced membrane and microreactors, and synchrotron characterization methods. After the workshop and tour of the DNL laboratories, the HCJRG had a round table discussion on December 11th. They summarized the progress which has been made in 2013. A detailed plan was made for the year 2014, including the research plan, personnel exchange and joint meetings.  

The HCJRG (http://www.imvt.kit.edu/434.php) is a collaborative research endeavor between Professor Andreas Goldbach and Professor Xiulian Pan of DICP and Professor Roland Dittmeyer and Professor Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) which is sponsored by CAS and the German Helmholtz Association. It aims at the development of highly efficient and compact systems for hydrogen production from renewable sources through integration of highly active catalysts and ultrathin, hydrogen-selective membranes into microreactors, making use of synchroton X-ray techniques for in situ and in operando characterization of the fully integrated systems. 

The goal of this workshop was to strengthen the relationship between KIT and DICP and reach out to a wider range of experts from different scientific areas. We envision new Sino-German and international scientific partnerships on nanostructured materials for energy-related applications arising from this workshop.
