On Sept. 17, 2013, Prof. Choon Hong Tan from Nanyang Technological University was invited to visit DICP by Prof. Zhengkun Yu and gave a lecture titled “Chiral Brønsted Base Catalyzed Enantioselective Reactions”. DICP scientists and graduates of organic chemistry participated in the lecture. He presented their recent advances in chiral Brønsted base-catalyzed enantioselective reactions. Chiral guanidines are excellent enantioselective catalysts for Michael, Phospha-Michael and Diels-Alder reactions. The conjugate addition of arylthiol to 2-phthalimidoacrylate and 1,3-proton shift reaction leading to chiral allenes are two impressive examples. Prof. Tan’s research interests include synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and bioengineering. He has recently published more than 70 articles and reviews in the prestigious international academic journals such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and J. Am. Chem. Soc..(By Liandi Wang)
