Invited by Prof. Song Xie of DICP, Prof. Qiang Hu paid an academic visit to DICP from 24 to 25 of December, 2012.
During his stay at DICP, Prof. Hu presented two lectures titling respectively “Molecular and cellular mechanisms of lipid production in microalgae and implications for biofuels production” and “Microalgal biofuels: Advances,Challenges and Opportunities”. In his lectures, Prof. Hu gave in-depth exploration on the origin and formation of the lipid body of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii from aspects of cell biology, protein and lipidomics. He also described in detail the bio-synthesis mechanism of TAG(triacylglycerol) over the enzyme of CrPDAT . In addition, from the engineering point of view, Prof. Hu talked on the important role of large scale cultivation of microalgae on the industry chain of microalgal biofuels. He also introduced the designing of new photobioreactors as well as the importance of microbial pollution prevention during large scale cultivations.
