Recently, standard substances of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) in mussel tissue, prepared by the research team headed by Prof. Jiping Chen in DICP Environmental Assessment & Analysis Group, have been approved by the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine (AQSIQ) as First Class National Standard Reference Materials (i.e. the grade “Primary Reference Material”, GBW 10069). In the past two decades, DICP scientists have succeeded in the preparation of a number of Second Class National Standard Reference Materials, but it was for the first time that this DICP team has achieved in the preparation of First Class National Standard Reference Materials. The devices used for preparing these standard materials were licensed as National System Standard Device 10001182.
Constant-value targets of these standard materials consisted of 16 PCBs and 18 OCPs. The method employed for the determination of these standard materials was the most authoritative and the most precise one, namely, isotopic dilution - high resolution GC/MS (ID-HRGC/HRMS). These First Class National Standard Reference Materials have high application potentials in foodstuff safety control, environmental monitoring, evaluation of methods for quality and quarantine inspection, instrumentation calibration, operation skill testing of analysis personnel, technical arbitration, etc. The successful preparation of these materials has filled in the vacancy of our country in this area, and provided the necessary products for China to implement the Stockholm Convention and to carry out sustained supervision of organic pollutants. In addition, marketing prospect for these standard materials is also very attractive.
