“New Type Sustained-Releasing Medical Materials”, an important directional research project of the CAS Knowledge Renovation Program accomplished by DICP, was subjected to an acceptance-check organized by the Hi-Tech Bureau of CAS on 11th June. The Acceptance-Check Experts Group agreed unanimously that this project has fulfilled all of the contract requirements and indices, and has laid a foundation for the R&D of new type medical materials.
The research work of the project was carried out by the DICP team headed by Prof. Xiaojun Ma. Aiming at the problems of limited species, unsatisfactory stability and unstable production processes in presently existing carrier materials for drugs, the DICP researchers have investigated preparation techniques and applications of new type carriers for sustained release of drugs, basing on natural macromolecular materials. They have realized graded refining and functional investigation of natural polysaccharide materials, as well as purification of histological engineering grade polysaccharides in a GMP pilot plant scale, the production capacity was 10 Kg/year. Moreover, sustained release preparations for gastric ulcer, osteomyelitis, etc. have been developed, and some of them have also finished pre-clinic investigations.
