X-ray absorption (XAS) and x-ray absorption linear dichroism (XLD) as well as circurlar dichroism (XMCD) on the bulk materials and thin films of 3d, 4d and 5d transition metal TM and rare earth compounds are sensitive tool for valence state, spin state, and orbital occupation as well as local environment. These detailed microscopic information of electronic structure in the ground is directly related to the activity of the electrocatalyst. I shall focus on the application of synchrotron radiation light source to study solid catalysts and the relationship between the electronic structure and the catalytic reactivity.
Dr. HU is the leader of X-ray spectroscopy group in Max Planck Institute for Chemical physics of Solids Dresden (2010-now). He received his M.Sc. degree from the physics department of Jilin University (1987) and Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Experimental physic, Freie Universit鋞 Berlin by Prof. G. Kaindl(1994). He did his postdoctoral training at the Institute of Experimental physic, Freie Universit鋞 Berlin by Prof. G. Kaindl(1994-1997) and continued postdoctoral work at the Institute of Solid State Materials Research FW, Dresden, Germany by Prof. J. Fink. Jan. (1998-2001). Dr. HU was the project leader of C3-SFB608 (Sonderforschungsbereich 608) in Institute Physics II, University of Cologne, Germany (2002-2009). Among his over 170 papers, 26 publications are in the top journals, including Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev. X, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, J. Am. Chem. Soc., NPG Asia Mater., Nat. Commun., Advanced Materials.
