　　Introduction：This workshop was held in one of the most beautiful cities in China, Dalian in Liaoning province. Brought together were American and Chinese students, post-docs, and leading experts to discuss the scientific and engineering aspects of heterogeneous catalysis. Conference participants were provided with the opportunity to make friends and create connections at one of China's most outstanding research institutes while enjoying the warm cultural atmosphere of China. The workshop highlighted several world leaders in lectures on their most recent work. The heart of the conference was contributed talks from Chinese and American students, including a poster session for those who did not give an oral presentation.
